2nd XI were away to Groves 2nds in Whitby, again we won the toss and elected to bat but, we could only post 120 all out in 27.3 overs (Dinesh Chinnasamy 60), Groves past the total with overs and wickets in hand to make 123 for 4 from 27.5, winning by 6 wickets.
No home game this weekend due to football tournament.
1sts are away to Tranmere Victoria while 2nds ‘host’ Aplleton 3rds at Port Sunlight
The Parkies returned home from the Cheshire Alliance awards night (Friday 8th) with 9 trophies which included runners up in the 3rd Division and Aggregate cup, Winners of Division 5 West.
The evening was held at the Britannia country house hotel in Didsbury and this year’s guest speaker was former Kiwi bowler Jeremy Coney.
There are no plans for an open top bus tour around the car park but we might want a trophy cabinet making soon.
Mixed fortunes so far this season for the cricket club, the firsts have suffered a couple of defeats in the Alliance league and a defeat in the midweek league, the seconds are undefeated and are sitting top of the Alliance division 5 West.
Westminster Park Cricket club are looking for local business’ to sponsor the club for 2013.
Escalating costs are squeezing us financially and we need a partner to help with the purchase of match balls, replacement kit and Junior section cricket.
The Parkies now compete county wide in the Cheshire Cricket Alliance and are obliged to purchase match balls from the league, the cost being a lot more than when we supplied our own.
We want to provide a training/club shirt to all kids who wish to join the club, this reduces any risk of self consciousness or embarrassment due to their families financial circumstances and would help in makind the individual feel he’she belonged to the club and there is the increase in the club’s insurance policy with the creation of the juniors.
Any interested parties can contact the club secretary, Craig Edwards for details by email at craigandkatrina [*at*] btinternet.com or via www.westminsterpark.play-cricket.com.
2 runs needed from the final ball with the batsman having just arrived at the crease won a belter of a game at Cholmondeley Castle, Rob Aldridge recording his best score for the Parkies (42) set the momentum and WPCC crossed the line with 2 men remaining. Cholmondeley CC 183 for 5, Park 184 for 8. (40 overs).
The penultimate game was a splendid day at Eaton Hall; Park fielded first and ran through the batsman with ease, Peter ‘Gnome’ Dodd striking again to return figures of 2-1-5-3. Park reached the total set with balls, and players, to spare.
Eaton Hall 11 74 all out, Park 75 for 7.
The final game was at home against a touring team from Buckinghamshire, Chartridge CC were very merry by the time they reached Chester on the train but played well in the field, although they couldn’t stop the Parkies hitting a good total, the dark probably had some bearing on the final result but Chartridge couldn’t maintain there bright start and fell short by 19 runs.
Park 131 for 7, Chartridge CC 112 for 7.
Park have merged with fellow pitch users Chester Asians and will be looking to recruit for the new year, we will be competing in the Cheshire Alliance league and need players for a second team who can commit to Saturdays and occasional Sundays for the Knockout cup. We are also looking for players for the T20 league and friendlies. All abilities welcome.
2013 will also be the start of our junior section, we have 2 fully qualified ECB UK2 level coaches and crb checked volunteers who will form an under11 group, working with the local schools. Our intention is to add age groups as we gain experience and the kids grow.
Ladies are also welcome to join, there are a few women playing in the Cheshire Alliance and there are also plenty of women’s teams in the area, so if we have enough demand then there is the option to form our own.
Nets sessions start in January.

Tuesday 2nd Aug 2011
W.P.C.C. were privileged to play a 20 overs friendly at Eaton Hall, the ground is in a magnificent setting; the Hall, visible beyond mature trees, the estate railway track skirting the boundary rope and the pavilion which was built in the 1890’s, positioned perfectly to take in the whole scene.
Having lost the toss, the Parkies took to the field; there was plenty of evidence in the outfield of the herd of deer (first encountered on entry), but the pitch was beautiful and the home side took advantage of their familiarity by posting 128 for 3 with 2 retired not out.
Park scored 129 for 2 with 2 balls to spare and 2 retired not out.
The hosts were generous with their congratulations and with the tea they provided, it was well past dark when the last of the Parkies said their goodbyes and we are looking forward to our return next year.
A big Thankyou to Martin Wells and the Eaton Hall team for their invitation and hospitality, it was very much appreciated.
